Meet The Speakers

Xan Barksdale, Catching-101.com

Topic: To Be Announced

Xan Barksdale spent 5 years as catching coach at the University of Louisville and 4 years at East Tennessee State University.  However, he is most notably recognized for the development of Catching-101.com, his best selling book Catching-101: The Complete Guide for Baseball Catchers, and Catching-101 DVD, along with numerous other products, and catching apps.  He has also been a featured speaker at the ABCA National Convention and other national baseball clinics.  Xan is also in the Holmes Community College Hall of Fame.

Ryan Sienko,  Asst. Catching Coordinator Los Angeles Dodgers

Topic: Creating Elite Receivers

Ryan has an extensive and impressive baseball resume.  His most recent role is catching coordinator for the Los Angeles Dodgers and you probably know him from his popular Twitter account @Catch_and_Throw.  Ryan was a catcher at the University of Iowa before his professional playing career.  Aside from his current role, he has also served as an MLB scout.

Craig Driver, Yale University

Topic: Expect the Unexpected - Blocking Techniques and Drills

Craig is one of the top young catching coaches in the country.  The catching coach at Yale University also has a very popular Twitter account (@coachdrives) where he regularly posts insightful video clips that help catchers and catching coaches at all levels.

Tom Griffin, Head Coach Carson Newman University

Topic: Throwing is the Most Important Aspect in Catching

Tom Griffin is one of the greatest catching minds in college baseball.  He has been a featured speaker at the American Baseball Coaches Association National Convention multiple times.  His catching DVD: Catch it, Block it, Throw it is one of the best DVDs on the market.  With over 27 total years in coaching, he is in his 11th year as head coach at Carson Newman University.  Tom has spoken at CatcherCON each of the last two years and is always a crowd favorite.

Tanner Swanson, Catching Coach University of Washington

Topic: Caught Stealing: Catcher Throwing Patterns & Middle Infield Tags

Tanner is returning for his third straight CatcherCON.  As an assistant coach at Santa Clara University (previously University of Washington), he is regarded as one of the top rising catching coaches in the country.  Tanner mentored Austin Rei to be a 3rd round pick in the MLB draft (the highest drafted catcher in UW history).  Swanson also runs one of the most popular catching accounts on Twitter, @D1Catching.

Matt Kosderka, Head Coach, Lewis & Clark College

Topic: Coaching Catchers for Dummies

Before his college coaching career, Matt played professionally in the Texas Rangers organization.  He is currently the head coach of Lewis & Clark College, but has also coached at Williamette University.  He brings a unique perspective to CatcherCON that is going to be a treat for attendees.

Sammy Serrano, USA Baseball

Topic: Training Tools to Enhance Your Game

Sammy Serrano was a 2nd round draft pick by the San Francisco Giants after a stellar career at Stetson University.  He has worked with USA Baseball for the past 10 years as a Catching Instructor, Evaluator, and Coach.  Most recently, he has also been named coach of the 14U Evoshield Canes National Team.

Jerry Weinstein, Colorado Rockies

Topic: Pitch Calling 2.0

Jerry has been the Brewers catching coordinator, managed for the Expos, Cubs, and for the Rockies in the California League. He also was catching coordinator for the Dodgers and later Director of Player Development for the Dodgers. He is currently the Major League catching coach for the Rockies. Jerry is a member of the California Community College Baseball Hall of Fame, the Sacramento City College Athletic Hall of Fame, the ABCA Hall of Fame and the La Salle Club Coaches Hall of Fame .
