Meet The Speakers
Jerry Weinstein, Colorado Rockies
2 Presentations: Calling Pitches, and Advanced Receiving Techniques
Jerry has been the Brewers catching coordinator, managed for the Expos, Cubs, and for the Rockies in the California League. He also was catching coordinator for the Dodgers and later Director of Player Development for the Dodgers. He is currently the Major League catching coach for the Rockies. Jerry is a member of the California Community College Baseball Hall of Fame, the Sacramento City College Athletic Hall of Fame, the ABCA Hall of Fame and the La Salle Club Coaches Hall of Fame .
Xan Barksdale, Catching-101.com
Blueprint for Coaching Catchers
Xan Barksdale spent 5 years as catching coach at the University of Louisville and 4 years at East Tennessee State University. However, he is most notably recognized for the development of Catching-101.com, his best selling book Catching-101: The Complete Guide for Baseball Catchers, and Catching-101 DVD, along with numerous other products, and catching apps. He has also been a featured speaker at the ABCA National Convention and other national baseball clinics. Xan is also in the Holmes Community College Hall of Fame.
Paul Phillips, Former MLB Player, Current MiLB Coach
Catching Mentality at the MLB Level
Paul is a rare mix of accomplished player and coach. As a player he spent 7 years in the Major Leagues with the Kansas City Royals, Chicago White Sox, and Colorado Rockies. Following his playing career he began a coaching career and coached at NCAA DI Lipscomb University before making his way back into professional baseball. He is currently a coach for the AAA affiliate of the Miami Marlins.
Tom Griffin, Head Coach Carson Newman University
Drills and Fundamentals of Blocking
Tom Griffin is one of the greatest catching minds in college baseball. He has been a featured speaker at the American Baseball Coaches Association National Convention multiple times. His catching DVD: Catch it, Block it, Throw it is one of the best DVDs on the market. With over 27 total years in coaching, he is in his 11th year as head coach at Carson Newman University.
Tanner Swanson, Catching Coach University of Washington
D1 Catching Drills
Tanner is in his second season as catching coach at the University of Washington. He is regarded as one of the top rising catching coaches in the country. Tanner mentored Austin Rei to be a 3rd round pick in the MLB draft (the highest drafted catcher in UW history). Swanson also runs one of the most popular catching accounts on Twitter, @D1Catching.
Jay Weaver, New England Catching Camp
Throwing Drills and Mechanics
Jay is the Director of the New England Catching Camp, one of the largest and most popular catching camps across the country. He is also an associate scout for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Jay has spoken multiple times at the World Baseball/Softball Coaches Convention. He has written articles for Baseball Digest and is also a former editor at ESPN.com.
Greg Robins, Cressey Sports Performance
Strength Training and Conditioning for Catchers
Greg Robins is a strength and conditioning coach at Cressey Sports Performance. He is a former collegiate catcher and currently trains professional catchers. He is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Precision Nutrition Level 1 Coach (Pn1), and a Certified Kettlebell Instructor (RKC). He has been featured in Men’s Health Magazine, Men’s Fitness Magazine, Elite FTS, and his writing can be found on numerous other blog’s.
